Chart of the Month January 2025

To review and summarize the year 2024, we asked a very simple question: “How would you describe the year 2024 in one word?” And we got variety of responses. When analyzing the verbatim responses, we first categorized the words into three segments: "Positive," "Neutral," and "Negative."

Sentiment Breakdown of 2024
This chart illustrates how respondents described the year 2024 in one word. The majority (68%) expressed positive sentiments, indicating that many had a favorable experience. Meanwhile, 21% provided neutral responses, reflecting a balanced or mixed outlook. Lastly, 11% described the year negatively, suggesting that a smaller portion of respondents faced challenges or difficulties.

Word Cloud Analysis: How People Described 2024

The word cloud below visually represents the responses to the question "How would you describe the year 2024 in one word?" Each word's size indicates its frequency, with larger words being mentioned more often.


The meanings of the three colors are as follows: -

- Blue represents positive words, such as "good," "best," "amazing," and "joyful."
- Yellow represents neutral words, including "learning," "lessons," and "normal."
- Red represents negative words, such as "bad," "worst," "stressful," and "inflation."

To gain deeper understanding, we asked respondents to explain why they chose their word. Here are their actual responses.


Improve“Everything was running smoothly in terms of health, financial growth, and stability.” “Because this year gave me great opportunities, and I learned so many things”.” After COVID, life had become quite difficult, but one of my cousin’s autistic children joined college this year, which makes me very proud."
Natural Sentiment"This year taught me many important lessons about life, such as the fact that not everything goes according to plan and that having backup plans is essential. I also learned many other life lessons, and as we grow, we continue to learn new and different things every day, week, month, and year."
Negative Sentiment"I have been going through a very bad year with no upsides. I'm very pessimistic about my future too."

Further, based on the open-ended responses, we identified key themes that describe how respondents reflected on 2024. These themes were categorized into Positive, Neutral, and Negative sentiments.

1. Positive Sentiment
- Happiness & Gratitude: Many respondents expressed feelings of joy, peace, and appreciation,
        mentioning experiences like spending time with loved ones, feeling blessed, and personal happiness.
- Personal Achievements & Career Growth: Several respondents highlighted career advancements,
        job promotions, and personal growth, indicating that 2024 was a year of progress for them.
- Memorable & Exciting Events: Some respondents recalled travel experiences, new opportunities,
        and exciting adventures, showing that 2024 brought unique and enjoyable moments.

2. Neutral Sentiment
- Uncertainty & Mixed Experiences: Some respondents described 2024 as a year of ups and downs,
        transitions, and challenges. While not entirely negative, these responses reflected a balanced or
        uncertain outlook, where both successes and difficulties were present.

3. Negative Sentiment
- Life Challenges & Struggles: A small number of respondents mentioned difficulties, hardships,
        and stress. This suggests that while some individuals faced personal or financial struggles,    
        negative sentiment was significantly lower compared to positive or neutral perspectives.

Now, let’s go to see the perspective for 2025. We asked the question about how their living situation will change over the next year.

In short, overall, the majority of respondents are very optimistic about the coming year, with only a small fraction expecting or uncertainty. This suggests confidence in economic stability, career growth, or personal development in the near future.

With an overwhelming sense of optimism among respondents, we can confidently say that India's future in 2025 looks bright!
